Snoozing After Sex: Good or Bad?

If you are a man, do you find yourself getting annoyed at the fatigue you experience after sex? And if you are a woman, do you feel the same way about your partner’s stamina and then some? Well, both parties need not fret because feeling tired for up to 24 hours after sexual intercourse is perfectly normal for men.

The first thing to tackle is the time of the actual activity itself. Most sexual intercourse happens at night, and that is already a factor. Unless you’ve been sleeping all day, the body will have already lost its energy from other goings-on during the day, and come night time, it will totally be ready to hit the sack. Some may argue that “wilder” sex may force out the extra energy, but you should remember that sex is generally regarded as a relaxing activity. With that said, even with all the stimulation and various actions happening, the male body will always cool down after a satisfying orgasm.

Speaking of orgasm, it is common knowledge that women do not necessarily experience it every time, but men certainly do. Once a man ejaculates, it releases hormones that put the body in a state of relaxation. As a result, the sensation of sleep will be more powerful than normal, giving a feeling of exhaustion no matter how much tension the body feels during sex.

The breathing is also affected when one is having sex. Most people have a tendency to hold their breath frequently, thus making the intake of oxygen lesser than usual. This also contributes to the weakening of one’s body. It may sound dangerous, normalcy in breathing will return once the deed is done.

There are some suggested ways that offer short-term solutions to this after-sex fatigue problem. Drinking coffee before sex can give you a short energy boost, and as a bonus, coffee can also act as a stimulant for erotic drive. But be careful not to drink too much, as the effect might overload the nervous system, which would result in an even longer drain period after orgasm has been reached. For a more nutritious option, try refrigerated citrus fruits like grapefruit. Alcohol can also be considered, but like coffee, you should also watch out for the amount because too much can actually have a reverse effect.

Nobody should be alarmed by that “power loss” in men. In a sense, feeling sleepy after a sexual activity means that you have experienced a normal orgasm and the tiredness the body feels is only a natural outcome. You should take note, however, if your fatigue lasts longer than the average time. In this case, it is highly recommended that you consult your doctor if that is the result of certain medical problems.
